Visual communication can be any kind of transfer of information, idea or emotion, whether it’s the shape and surface of a household product or a gift wrapped in paper and bows. Design is not a word that is used very frequently in this way but when we see it expressed in an unusual or appealing way we say that person is creative. It means they are doing a good job of communicating.

In gift wrapping and all the spectator crafts we see it flourish. Our mental pockets are filled with images and icons that we associate with our lifestyle. We pull them out and use them as reference all the time. Our choice of bows - their size, texture and color are all related to our experience and desire to create something as good as or better than before. So the next time you’re called on to wrap a gift, pull one out of your hat, as they say.
