Make super ribbons for your gifts
Family, friends, even your barky has a birthday. There are always opportunities to try out your gift wrapping skills. For family members there is anticipation of that special day, culminating in a celebration with cards and gifts. So what could be a better chance for trying out your craft skills than putting your personal touch to a gift for a special person? Like icing on the cake! Square one is, of course, paper, ribbon and bow but to take it up a notch doesn’t take much more.
If you’ve got a party coming up don’t deny yourself the chance to display a little creativity. Washing clothes and oil changes are chores. Gift wrapping isn’t one of those. It’s a time to be creative and add to the fun of the occasion. A birthday cake, balloons and gifts are all part of the fun time. It’s meant to ensure the day is special for that special person. All it takes is a little creative effort to make it very festive. One easy way to is put a little special effort into the gift wrapping. And the easy way to do that is twist up some gift tie like you won’t find in any store. Or even ordinary ribbon can be made to make a premier performance.
Ribbon with a twist - One of my favorites for giving gift wrap some excitement can be found in the fabric store. It’s half inch cloth strips that come bundled in continuous rolls. It is usually brightly colored, patterned material. Twisting several strips together makes a wonderful alternative to regular ribbon. But that’s just the beginning. Add to it any other material you have including ¼ inch store bought ribbon, yarn or even gold mesh. From there it’s a simple matter of measuring off the two length you need - one for each direction, and tying off the ends with a piece of thread. Tape one end in the center of the box and start twisting. The results should be a very exciting gift wrap. Finish it off with a big crepe bow or a tissue paper flower.
Playing on the fun side - If you’ve chosen of theme of say flowers with a palette of pinks, greens and cream will give as nice look. For birthdays try flat primary colors for a circus feel. Make the most of the occasion by using color to generate mood. The gift tie described above is just a starting point. Explore different wrapping ideas to enhance the mood of the gift. Running three parallel bands or a variation is one option. Laying ribbons diagonally is another. Layering is another approach with many possibilities. You can do this by starting with a broad, simple band and overlaying smaller, bolder colored ribbon.
You’ve found the perfect gift. It’s a little offbeat and a trip to the fun side will make it even more unusual when it comes to wrap. Picture Chinese newspaper and fortune cookie fortune ribbon as a theme. Use your imagination and reap the delight you can generate with a little playful use of paper and ribbon. There are ideas waiting in the corners of your mind.
