Fishing for a wrap theme

Wishing to do something creative for a gift wrapping project? Often intentions are overshadowed by other events. Often it is hard just to get paper, ribbon and bow that match. One way to get the ball rolling is to start with a theme. Does the gift you are wrapping offer ideas for a theme?

Maybe a bow isn’t the answer. Exotic birds and fish offer great solutions. Try dressing them up in whimsical shirts complete with accessories. Make your creative creatures from colored paper and clips from magazines. Make copies of your imaginary critters. Divide the box top into an simple grid and place copies of your creation into each square. Be creative when developing your own gift wrapping theme, remember that your whimsical fish can have hands and faces if you want.

Who Appreciates Gift Wrapping the Most?

Anytime is a good time to party a little. Gift giving is a fun time and usually involves the trappings of celebration with special foods like cake and ice cream, plus music and Champaign.

A gift wrapped in bright paper is often part of the occasion. And the unwrapping part is an occasion for funny conversation, laughter and picture taking. Everyone in high spirits, sharing the moment.

Having played their role, all but forgotten amidst the revelry, are the crumpled paper, ribbon and open boxes that now become objects of great interest to other members of our family. I’m speaking of cats. We have three. The antics of these furry critters are as entertaining as what everyone one else is doing. They often steal the show by making a party of their own from the leftovers.

But now we are beginning to see evolution take place. These cat’s have developed their own version of gift giving. They’re no longer satisfied to wait. Zina was the first to generate her own version of gift giving.. She has a preference for leaves or twigs gleaned from house plants. If none are available she will resort to short lengths of string or ribbon from the toy box. Often sitting there a long time, trying to make up her mind.. How that works is a mystery, but once she decides she’s on her trek through the house, singing to let you know she’s coming with a special gift for someone. The mission is rarely a success though - since it usually winds up being buried under the edge of the carpet where we have most of our family gatherings.

Ridley, the big, black and white has a different approach. His gift of choice is one of numerous small cloth mice that he has taken from his secret stash. Several times a day this ritual is played out. Once he begins his journey through the house he starts singing, expecting someone to answer, He sings a verse and waits for an answer. Repeating this many times. Eventually he makes his appearance and drops his gift, then postures while he expects to be thanked profusely. It’s a ritual, with Ridley everything is a ritual. But then so are birthdays and gift giving occasions.

Tip 21
Be sure to take advantage of bargains after the holidays. Remember that wrapping paper in plain colors can have other uses. So can ribbon, string and small objects like beads.
